Grooming interval calculator: when should this dog come back?
Owners ask it at every handover: “When should we do this again?” Pick the coat, the length they want and how often they brush, and get a starting interval, the next three dates and a message you can send them.
Start with a groom every
5 weeks
A starting range of 4 to 6 weeks. Let the coat at the next visit tell you whether to adjust.
Starting points, not rules. The dog in front of you always wins.

Where the intervals come from
The starting ranges are the same as in our coat-by-coat rebooking guide, drawn from published groomer and veterinary guidance: four to six weeks for curly and long silky coats, six to eight for double coats, six to twelve for wire coats depending on clipping or hand-stripping, and eight to twelve for short, smooth coats, which mostly need a bath, nails and a de-shed. The calculator then nudges the range with our own rule of thumb, not a published standard:
- A long, fluffy style mats sooner than a short one, so it comes back a week earlier.
- A short, practical clip on a curly or silky coat can stretch a week.
- Little or no brushing at home pulls the visit forward; regular brushing gives you room.
- Puppies get short, frequent visits while they learn the table and the dryer.
These are starting points, not rules. Season, lifestyle and the coat you find on the table at the next visit should always decide.
Book it before you leave
The best time to agree on the next date is at the door, while the dog looks great and the owner is happy. Offer one or two specific dates rather than an open question, and turn regulars into a standing slot: “every sixth Tuesday at 10” is easy to remember and easy for you to protect.
Recurring rebooks every 4, 6 or 8 weeks are already part of the GroomSolo app preview. The app is in development and not available yet.
